Khankendi, located in the picturesque Karabakh mountain range, is one of Azerbaijan’s largest cities.
Founded in the late 18th century by the Karabakh Khans, it was initially named Khanin kendi, meaning “Khan’s village,” before its designation definitively became Khankendi, or “Khan’s settlement.” Initially, this area served as a summer residence for the Khan’s family, which emphasizes its special significance and favorable climate.
